Miles Davis, Bill Boggs

Miles Davis

*Update: I’ve been instructed to give a warning. This image of Miles Davis may be more exciting than this video is. I’m just saying. It was awkwardly delightful for me to watch, but it may not be for you.*

Bill Boggs talked to (as much as the trumpeteer would allow him to) Miles Davis for 45 minutes about jazz, Miles’ personal style and other musicians. There was even a point during the interview when Boggs brought out youngsters who aspired to be great trumpet players. Davis had no mercy on them. I wondered, as I watched, where those children were today.

The best part of the entire interview, however, is when Boggs hands Davis a trumpet and asks him to describe a trumpet to him. Davis’ response, “I would never play this … it’s too heavy, too … trumpety … (A)nd it doesn’t match my jacket.”
