This is the Song that Doesn’t End

I’ve had discussions with my friends and family about the soap opera that is the love pentagon of John and Elizabeth Edwards, Rielle Hunter and Andrew and Cheri Young, but it hasn’t seemed like anything worth blogging about. Politicians lie. People lie for them. Politicians have sex with people who aren’t their spouses. “Regular people” have sex with people who aren’t their spouses. People have unhealthy, enmeshed relationships with people. People lie some more. As Barney sang, it’s the song that doesn’t end.

There’s one thing I just don’t get, though, and I’m being judgmental about it: Rielle Hunter’s recent photo shoot with GQ magazine. No, it’s not the extra-marital affair or the baby I’m judging her for. It’s this picture of her with I-just-had-sex-bedhead, wearing a man’s button down and a string of pearls (all things that equate to the classic sexy image) with Barney, Kermit the Frog, Dora the Explorer and some pink thing with large brown eyes resting next to her. I don’t get it. It’s just weird. Creepy, in fact. All of the pictures don’t have her stuffed friends in them. There’s just one, but that’s all it takes is one. Hunter has since said she trusted the photographer and magazine is disappointed with the finished product. I figure, however, you had to have some idea the images may turn out the way they did when you’re there during hair/make-up, saw the set and participated in the shoot itself. If, by chance, she wasn’t, I certainly see her gripe.
