You Don’t Have to Hurt No More

I didn’t grow up a girl who had a princess mentality and had Disney fantasies of my Prince Charming coming to rescue me from a dismal, ordinary life of singleness. But in 1996, when Mint Condition released “You Don’t Have to Hurt No More,” I had my first real romanticized ideas about being liberated from whatever and whomever it is we women are liberated from in our daydreams. I wanted someone to dedicate that song to me on WACR. It never happened. And to this day, I know if my “him” played this song for me, I’d melt. But not completely because who’d clean it up?
