Starring the unknown Gabourey Sidibe and the more well known Mo’Nique, Mariah Carey, Lenny Kravitz, Paula Patton and Sherri Shepherd, “Precious” premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January and will be released in limited theaters November of this year. It’s based on the novel “Push” by Sapphire.

… better read the novel before seeing the film. I haven’t yet.

The film’s plot according to IMDB:

Claireece Precious Jones endures unimaginable hardships in her young life. Abused by her mother, raped by her father, she grows up poor, angry, illiterate, fat, unloved and generally unnoticed. So what better way to learn about her than through her own, halting dialect.

  2. They just don’t seem to make movies the way they used to, you know? Or maybe my standards have changed. Either way, this is a must see.
